On Friday, Nova Southeastern University's women's swimming team made history, breaking the NCAA Division II record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.92. This achievement marked a significant milestone for the team, as they hosted Miami, Florida Southern, and Barry University for their senior day. The previous record, set by Queens NC in 2018 and 2019, was 3:18.04.
The Nova Southeastern Sharks' victory was a testament to their consistency and teamwork. Unlike Queens, where at least one swimmer split under 49 seconds in both records, the Sharks' fastest and slowest splits were only separated by seven tenths of a second. This consistency was key to their success.
Sophomore Kristina Orban led off the relay with a time of 49.64, followed by Grad Student Zsofia Kurdi (49.41), Sophomore Maxine Egner (49.74), and Senior Maya Esparza (49.13) anchoring the team to a total time of 3:17.92. The team's performance was a testament to their dedication and hard work, as they look to defend their NCAA title in March.
Nova Southeastern is currently ranked #2 in the CSCAA DII Dual Meet Polls, and the four relay swimmers will have more opportunities to lower their relay record at the Sunshine State Conference and the NCAA Championships.
