Bold collaboration for progress: a US diplomat and KP’s CM discuss a shared path to development
Peshawar, December 3, 2025 — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi welcomed US Consul General Thomas Eckert at the Chief Minister’s House, where the two leaders explored avenues of collaboration aimed at mutual development and prosperity.
Afridi reiterated that public welfare remains the central guiding principle behind every decision made by the provincial government. He reflected on the post-9/11 era, emphasizing that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suffered the deepest impacts from the war on terrorism and is now dedicating its efforts to building robust infrastructure, strengthening institutions, and enhancing local capacities. He also pointed out that the administration is actively promoting small hydropower projects and constructing dams to deliver affordable, clean energy to households and businesses alike.
Eckert highlighted that commercial diplomacy is a fundamental component of US foreign policy, underscoring that sustained economic engagement is crucial for fostering peace and global stability.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in security, development, and shared prosperity.
