The curtain is falling on a collaboration that promised so much: the Fear of God x adidas partnership is officially coming to a close. After nearly five years since the initial announcement, the fashion world is preparing to say goodbye to this high-profile team-up. But what went wrong?
The partnership, announced with much fanfare, paired Jerry Lorenzo's Fear of God with the iconic adidas brand. The anticipation was palpable, with many eager to see the creative fusion of these two powerhouses. However, it wasn't until 2023, following Fear of God's debut runway show, that the first products actually hit the market.
In a recent interview with Complex, Lorenzo himself confirmed the news. When asked about the future of the collaboration, he stated, "As of today, I am still under contract with adidas… Our partnership ends at the end of December, and we’ve agreed not to renew it."
This news, while perhaps not entirely unexpected, still leaves many wondering what the future holds for both brands. While several footwear designs have been released over the past few years, they haven't quite reached the heights of the Nike Air Fear of God 1 from 2018. And this is the part most people miss... The biggest impact of this collaboration might actually be with adidas Basketball, which, starting in 2022, began incorporating Lorenzo's distinct design aesthetic into its apparel and sneaker lines.
But here's where it gets controversial... Did the partnership live up to its initial hype? Did the designs truly capture the essence of both brands? Or did the delayed product releases and the shadow of the earlier Nike collaboration hinder its success?
