The Los Angeles Dodgers are setting their sights on a significant goal ahead of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. After celebrating back-to-back World Series victories, the team's president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, is eager to see changes come to fruition during this pivotal time.
Following their triumph in the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers took proactive steps by re-signing key players like Teoscar Hernández, Blake Treinen, and Clayton Kershaw. They also strengthened their lineup by acquiring notable talents such as Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, and Kirby Yates.
During the introduction of Blake Snell at Dodger Stadium in 2024, Friedman reflected on a belief he had shared earlier that spring. "Last February, I optimistically expressed, 'The dream is to be in first place and be a seller.' My ultimate aim is to avoid making trades in July," he reminisced. He further articulated his determination: "I’m putting it out there right now—our objective is to do everything possible to prevent having to buy in July, as it’s often a challenging time to acquire new talent."
Friedman acknowledged the necessity of adapting if the situation calls for it, as was the case during the 2025 trade deadline. The Dodgers were quite active, making several transactions that brought in players like Brock Stewart, Alex Call, and Paul Gervase, among others. Interestingly, they also adopted a seller role, leveraging their deep starting pitching roster to trade Dustin May in exchange for promising prospects Tibbs and Ehrhard.
As the Dodgers moved forward after yet another World Series championship, they didn’t hesitate to address their roster needs aggressively through free agency, notably signing Edwin Díaz and Kyle Tucker. At Tucker's welcoming event at Dodger Stadium, Friedman reiterated his vision for the upcoming trade deadline. "We discussed this around the same time last year, but my goal remains steadfast: we want to position ourselves so that we aren’t buyers in July. Ideally, if our depth allows, we could even trade some players. However, those scenarios are rare. Still, I believe we are mostly set for significant changes."
As the clock ticks down to the trade deadline, which is officially set for 3 p.m. PT on August 3, the real question remains: Will Andrew Friedman’s aspirations materialize? The anticipation builds as fans and analysts alike await the Dodgers' next moves.
